Celebrity Republicans: Hiding In Plain Sight.
Being a Republican in Hollywood can be tantamount to career suicide. It used to be the other way around. 1947 saw the HUAC hearings that would eventually lead to the creation of the Hollywood Blacklist. But nowadays, most of the powerful studio heads, agents and opinion-makers seem to be... wait for it... leaning to the left. And you thought I was going to say "Jewish". Shame on you.
It comes as no surprise then, that conservative stars tend to keep quiet - while liberal icons never seem to shut the f*ck up. Leonardo DiCaprio went on tour with Michael Moore to promote Farenheit 9-11. Danny Glover was arrested last week at a protest outside the Sudan embassy in Washington. Martin Sheen continues to make a nuisance of himself whenever out-of-doors and I won't even bring up Sarandon and Robbins out of fear that I may spontaneously combust.
It's for that reason that I can't help but salute the Republican superstars that risk all and rear their ugly heads from time-to-time. But are the vocal ones really helping the cause? Ted Nugent is free to advise me on the correct way to skin a boar if he'd like. And if Brooks and Dunn want to give me a hands on "Boot Scootin' Boogie" lesson I'm game. But on matters of politics I'll look elsewhere for advice - and to more credible celeb-citizens to stand up for the party.
I recently found a great list of self-professed Republican celebrities and wanted to share it with you. There are some surprises and then there are some... "duh!"s.
Given: Hank Williams Jr., Clint Eastwood, Oak Ridge Boys, Pat Boone, Tom Clancy, George Steinbrenner, ZZ Top, Mel Gibson, Don King, Robert Davi, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Crystal Gayle, Charlie Daniels, John Tesh, James Caviezel.
Shocker: James Caan, Adam Sandler, Norm MacDonald, Paul McCartney, John Travolta, Charles Barkley, Sean Astin, Sharon Osbourne, LL Cool J, Dennis Hopper, Danny Aiello, Vince Vaughn, Marilyn Manson, Mike Piazza.
Regardless of their stature, I wish more of them would speak up and drown out some of the silly twats that are currently influencing the way America's youth is going to vote in November. MTV's Rock The Vote (for Kerry) and Choose (Kerry) or Lose campaigns have swamped media outlets that cater to the 18-25 demographic with partisan advertising that is currently scaring the hell out of me. But regardless, thank God Lil Kim registered this year.

I went to see F-911 at the Cumberland which is the cineplex-Odeon in Yorkville where you'll find UofT students, the stinking rich by day and the want-to-appear stinking rich by night. A real bunch of jerks. The UofT kids and the jerks in the theatre that night were being hit by revelation after revelation as was evident by all the humming and hawing throughout. The problem with the whole vote for a leader of the free world thing is that everyones vote is equal. So the half-retarded jerks in the theatre, for example, who's opinions are obviously constructed by whatever bits of crap they are able to glean from the media and I suspect other half-retards are able to cast a vote equal to those of normal people. An interesting paradox is that my "educated" friends are the half-retards. Too busy to stir a little logic in with their opinions I guess.
ps
Dave your totally retarded
That fat pile of shit Michael Moore, is going to submit 9-11 as a best picture. Well, I guess since it is a fucking farce as a documentary, it belongs in a category of make belive. It is a travesty that the first film to be made of one of the worst days in American History, is totally un American, and made by a man that wouldn't understand what it's like to serve your country with out asking for a word of thanks, just because it is your duty. Where is the movie about the bravery of New York's Police and Fireman running into a building that is sure to fall, just to try and save a person they never would have met if it wasn't for some assholes flying planes into buildings? Where is the movie about them working around the clock looking for anyone to save? Where is the movie of Bush at ground zero vowing revenge on the cowards that did this to us? Michael Moore says he made the film to get people to vote. He doesn't care who you vote for, just vote. Bullshit Mike. I would have a litle more respect for you, if you just said, hey, I do not like W, and I want you to vote for Kerry, and as further proof, here's a movie I made. I for one, could care less if Leo DiCaprio thinks Kerry is the man, I will use my own brain, and vote accordingly come November.
Look at both sides of an issue, and read/watch media from sources that sway both to the left and to the right (because none are ever truly objective or bi-partisan). Then form your own opinion somewhere down the middle. I can't think of a better way to seek the truth. If you read nothing but the New York Times, I don't want to have a political conversation with you. Likewise, if you watch nothing but the O'Reilly Factor - I don't want to have a political conversation with you. You're not informed. You're not looking for opinions that challenge your own to see if they shake up your perception of the world or the way in which you once thought about a person or an event. This is what I try and do on a daily basis. And I feel wholly comfortable in my support of Bush. To those who want to challenge my opinion with more regurgitated rhetoric (of which admittedly both sides are guilty) I will say only this: Tell someone who gives a fuck. I'm not going to change your mind, and you're sure as hell not going to change mine. Let's talk about something else instead. Like titties.
dave - you are queerer than a football bat.
Based on this documentary I saw a few years ago about the making of Apocalypse now:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0102015/
...Sheen could have been in a supermarket in Decatur, and thought he was in Southeast Asia.
"Price check at register thr... GOOKS IN THE WIRE!"
Sir Paul shouldn't count since as a Brit, he can't vote here, but it's nice to know. Ditto Gary Oldman, not on your list.
Then you have crossovers, like Ron Silver, a liberal who appeared in support of Bush at the RNC.
Interesting list!
