All The News That's Fit To Ignore.

The following text is a letter my friend Steve penned to the Boston Globe this morning. I had thought of mentioning something similar here on the blog last week, but this speaks volumes and I'm glad that I waited. It is really horrifying (there's just no other word for it) to think that most major media outlets are downplaying what is happening in Iraq right now because it hurts their agendas and conflicts with their leanings. Have a read:

"I'm utterly disappointed with your coverage of the Iraqi elections. I arrived yesterday, to my adopted home town, fresh from a business trip that afforded me the opportunity to see how Europe, Central and Eastern Asia report upon these crucial Iraqi elections. I rushed down the steps of our triple-decker in South Boston, keen to hear how the elections had played out.

While your headline declares "Iraqis flock to polls" your accompanying editorial misses the point - by about a half century (since the last free elections). Your affront continues, like a toothless pup, at the ankles of the birth of a nation's independence. Your partisan journalism is found to fail the international fabric of Boston.

You may want to take a note from your column on the Gilette merger, "... as Boston, which once called itself the Hub of the Universe, now finds itself playing second fiddle to cities such as Cincinnati, Charlotte, N.C., and Toronto. I believe your once great news source, is now solidly Bush league, restrained by overt political blindness."

I couldn't find the editorial Steve is referring to, but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out where it's likely coming from. "Yeah, free elections and Democracy are great and everything, but Bush-bad-lied-Haliburton-no WMD-drunk daughters". The article was also summarily buried in favor of a story about illegal Guantanamo tribunals and has now dropped somewhere below the piece about whether or not Johnny Damon should cut his hair before his book tour is over. I wish I was kidding. Regardless of what you believe, whom you support or where you stand on issues of the day remember - always consider the source.

Great point Dave. The liberal media downplays all the good that the US is doing over in Iraq and it makes me sick. The vote was a rousing success, and soon, we will be able to turn the country back over to the Iraqi people.

...but if one American soldier gets a knee scrape from a pipe bomb - or an Iraqi detainee complains because they were given lukewarm gruel between now and then - you can be dammned sure that'll make the front page.

Dave,

Whoever your buddy is, he is my hero today. I couldn't agree with him more and its making me sick! This is a historic moment for Iraq and the fact that registered voter turnout is almost as high in Iraq as it was in the States just a couple of months ago speaks VOLUMES!

I am fed up with the liberal media. When are they going to sack up and report what is really going on here? Instead of covering the 43rd child rape case with Mr. Shanley, do you think they could give us a report on the Iraqi election?

Not to go too far off on a rant here, but did anyone catch Kerry on Meet the Press? I thank god and the American public for getting Bush back in office! Does this guy have a platform or what (outside of Bush bashing), does he believe in anything? Two things I want to point out:
1) He accused the Bush administration of meeting with the projected winner of the election, asking them to tell the American military to leave Iraq. When Russert responded, Kerry said it was just a "hunch".
2) Kerry is still meeting with leaders of Arab nations, even after he got his arse kicked in the election. One question? What the HELL is he doing!?! And who the hell does he think he is meeting with these guys? Anyone remember the last time he said foreign governments support him? Kerry's response when called on it... da da da da da uhhhhhh....

WHAT AN A-HOLE!!!

Same goes for the Globe!!! You A-Holes!!!!

I really don't know how to feel about this. First off - anything that Dave writes that is political is typically bullshit 'I hate anything you have to say that is liberal, but in reality I am an hypocritical frostback do I get a free bottle of syrup with my free medical liberal - not to be confused with your wetback lets throw a coup d'etat beaner liberal revolution'. You know what - Dave is only pretending to be Republican in hopes that it will improve his chances of getting US Citizenship - God help us all. In any case - no matter who you are - this Iraqi election should have more press especially seeing that it is such a marked accomplishment. This is what American Soldiers have been sacrificing their lives for and in the most tragic cases dying for. This is a victory for both Iraq and the entire partially democratic world and it is good to see that a lot of people out there feel the same... that this election should have gotten more press. Instead, I read about how Patriots fans are making their way down to Jacksonville for the SuperBowl. Amazing how American People aren't concerned until something directly infringes on their rights or directly becomes a problem. Liberal or Conservative - they freak out and make noise and put up several rules and regulations that make no sense. In anycase - the only thing that can make this election more popular than the SuperBowl is if Tom Brady is 8 feet tall, Mike Ditka is secretly his Dad, turns out they are both Iraqi and and they both stopped off in D.C. to vote, meet with the President for Brunch, then headed off to the SuperBowl in Jacksonville for the 3rd time in 4 years to destroy the Eagles... Then afterwards, instead of going to Disney WOrld they head to Cape Caneveral and take the first space shuttle ride to Mars (becoming the first ambassodors of Mars) to declare Mars as United States of America.

Oh and Doyle - You are a fucking Donkey who is about to be ridden like Sea Biscuit as soon as the ball n' chain is schackled to you buddy so I will let you run free with your words since I can understand that your opinion will soon no longer be 'Your Opinion' but 'Our Opinion'. The only thing I have heard you damn republicans do is talk about how ridiculous Kerry is when Bush is no better - lets spend 40 million on an inaugral election during war time that supposedly celebrates democracy. The Iraqi election in itself should celebrate democracy enough... FDR had chicken salad sandwiches and cold soup when he was re-inaugurated during war time. There was no extravagant party - hey spend forty mil on a party or spend forty mil on properly outfitting a humvee that will save at least one soldier if not more soldiers lives.

Hey Monster, lil pent up rage or something? As far as the inaugeration is concerned, PISS OFF! Every president has celebrated their inaugeration with lavish parties, and Bush is no different. Clinton... 33$ million then 31$ million. That doesn't sound like an inaugeration with chicken salad sandwiches. Lets get something straight, these guys all spend tons of privately raised funds on BS so stop singling out Bush.

At least we can agree on one thing, this is a historic moment for the Iraqi people. I feel proud to be an American and to be able to say that our country helped creat the opportunity for Iraqi people to elect their own leaders.

Hey France... F - OFF!!!!

hey second from the top... knee scrap eh? jerk.
"my country created the opportunity for..." - interesting blend of blind liberal 'in a perfect world' infused republican propoganda...

Your country created a civil war dude and now they're gonna pull out. So would I. War over there isn't a bad thing... they will be much to busy killing each other to fuck with us Infidels.

Dave isn't a republican he is too smart to tow that line. Dave is a contrarian interested in challenging stupid peoples opinions (see above) that are constructed soley on incomplete & inaccurate info gleaned from the media and their friends' who are likely no brighter than they are.

The media is a joke and has no soul. Case and point, watch Micheal Jackson's gay little boy infatuation completely eclipse anything that transpires over seas. Maybe CNN will break MJ coverage when Ayatollah al-Sistani is assinated by a brainwashed 12 yr old sunni kid. It will be tight... the impending civil war in Iraq will get air time only if MJ is looking innocent... and what if Brad & Jennifer get back together?

I'll always be greatful to your Americans for Hulkamania.

A year from now when the election has yet to produce a stable Iraq government and US troops are still over there building in for a semi permanent stay over, I'll remember to buy the Herald (to wipe my ass with).
